This course offers a deep dive into the governance of water resources in complex political, social, and environmental contexts. Students will explore how scientific knowledge, normative frameworks, and competing stakeholder interests shape decision-making at local, national, and international levels. Through a critical and multidisciplinary lens, the course highlights tensions between global policy agendas and regional realities, as well as the influence of diverse actors in framing water issues.

Structured around seven thematic areas — Integration, the Water-Energy-Food Nexus, International Water Law, Regionalisation, Water Justice, Climate Change and Innovation, and Water Security — this course provides analytical tools to engage with contemporary debates critically. Students will develop skills to assess policy frameworks, interrogate dominant narratives, and identify pathways for more sustainable and just water management. By the end of the course, students will come away better equipped to navigate the complexities of water governance in a changing world.
