Half a century after Shakespeare’s death, his works were systematically altered to suit new theatrical tastes. In this seminar, we will compare several of these altered texts to their original publication (or publications) as attributed to Shakespeare himself. What was changed, and why?
Students who succeed in this course will have demonstrated their ability to engage analytically with historical context, to successfully communicate in both oral and written forms, and to craft persuasive and positioned arguments which draw upon their independent reading and research.
