This seminar seeks to stimulate reflection about various management theories, their modes of explanation, and underlying worldviews. In this way, the seminar fosters understanding about the multiple logics of management theories. There is a particular focus on discussing causality and explanation on the one hand and meaning and interpretation on the other hand. We also discuss to which extent management theories can become self-fulfilling, and thus discover versus create truth. These considerations inform our concluding thoughts whether management theory should aim at converging towards a shared paradigm and advocate evidence-based management practice.
