This course serves two primary objectives. Firstly, it aims to familiarize Master's students with the foundational principles of constructing a well-structured research design within the field of political science. The research design delineates the methodology for executing a research project, particularly emphasizing the strategic utilization of empirical evidence to address the research inquiry. Students will gain insight into diverse research design paradigms and cultivate an awareness of the inherent trade-offs associated with selecting a specific approach.
This knowledge will profoundly contribute to the second and more pivotal goal of the course: the formulation of a comprehensive research design tailored for the students' respective Master's theses. Over the duration of this instructional program, students will progressively refine their Master's thesis by meticulously formulating a precise research query, crafting hypotheses, and ultimately constructing a robust research design that is aptly poised to address the stated research problem. Following an initial segment that acquaints participants with various research design models, and culminating with guidelines on framing research questions and hypotheses, collaborative sessions will be conducted to facilitate the mutual assessment of each student's work, fostering an environment for constructive critique and feedback exchange.

Ce cours a deux objectifs principaux. Premièrement, il vise à familiariser les étudiant@s de Master avec les principes fondamentaux de la construction d'un design de recherche bien structuré dans le domaine de la science politique. Le design de recherche définit la méthodologie d'exécution d'un projet de recherche, en mettant particulièrement l'accent sur l'utilisation stratégique des évidences empiriques pour répondre à la question de recherche. Les étudiant@s se familiariseront avec des paradigmes et méthodes de recherche et prendront conscience des compromis inhérents à la sélection d'une approche spécifique. Ces connaissances contribueront profondément au deuxième et plus important objectif du cours : la formulation d'un projet de recherche complet conçu pour leur mémoire de master.
Pendant la durée de ce programme d'enseignement, les étudiant@s affineront progressivement leur projet de master en formulant méticuleusement une question de recherche précise, en élaborant des hypothèses et, enfin, en construisant un projet de recherche solide adapté au problème de recherche énoncé.
Après une mise à niveau initiale familiarisant les participants avec les paradigmes et les méthodes de recherche, culminant avec un guide pour la formulation de questions et d'hypothèses de recherche, des sessions de travail seront organisées pour faciliter l'évaluation par les pairs, en favorisant un environnement propice à la critique constructive et au retour d'information.
