This course will examine the interface of health with other policy areas and will explore the mutually enriching relationship between global health diplomacy, governance, and policies. It will provide an introduction to these concepts and will analyze the many actors in global health, the venues for health, and the existing governance mechanisms supporting health policy-making. A particular emphasis will be given to the role WHO plays as an international health actor.

Specific thematic issues relevant to ongoing policy processes will be explored through introductory lectures, working groups, and guest lectures. The course will build on the knowledge that participants have gained through the course work in the previous semester. It is characterized by its practical examples, by its policy orientation, and by its political contextualization of the different health issues.

The course aims to provide insights on the practice of health policy and diplomacy, transfer knowledge and stimulate critical analysis and thinking.

The assessment in the course is done through a group presentation in class on a given topic, as well as through an individual written assignment on a topic of choice. This course has 6 ECTS.
