Data with geographic components are playing an increasingly important role in identifying and addressing health inequalities at the global level. Geographic data not only allows us to understand the intricate relationships between people, place, time and health, but also serves as a cornerstone for applied geospatial research aimed at improving population health and well-being.
Throughout the course, students will learn about different types of data, their sources, relevant software, and methods for utilizing data with a geographic component within the field of Global Health. Guest speakers representing various organizations will share their experiences and demonstrate the utility of geographic data in research and decision-making processes to improve health outcomes. Throughout the course students will learn how geospatial tools and techniques can be applied to various fields in global health, and two hands-on sessions will allow students to learn the basics of Geographic Information systems and charting geospatial data.
