There are relatively few recent studies in development economics that rely on modeling and structural estimation. When we first engage in these tasks to study questions related to economic development, we quickly find out that textbooks are unavailable. While most graduate programs teach structural estimation concepts in their courses, few organize them around the field of economic development. This course fills the gap for Ph.D. students interested in studying this eld by formally describing economic environments and using data to learn the primitives characterizing these environments. The classes are interactive and focus on methodological problems, from writing a model to estimating its parameters.
