This module will introduce students to the basic concepts and practices of legal translation. Together, we will consider the specific challenges posed by legal texts and explore how comparative law methods can constitute a valuable tool for legal translators. We will use the insights gained from this exploration to begin to develop the necessary skills and strategies for translating legal texts in Spanish through practical work on a range of text types from such areas of law as family law, inheritance law, criminal law and constitutional law.
