Objectif
This class gives students practical experience of translating from French into English while raising awareness of key stylistic differences between the two languages.
Descriptif
This course is divided into two separate classes, both taught by Susan Pickford. Native English and French speakers are welcome to attend. Native speakers of other languages may attend but are advised to bear in mind that the class requires excellent reading skills in French and writing skills in English.
Students will do practice translations covering a number of different text types and topics. The course will focus on improving students' grammatical accuracy and sensitivity to comparative stylistics, deepening their knowledge and understanding of the cultural, syntactic and idiomatic differences to be taken into consideration when translating from French to English.
