Objectif
The theory of disruptive innovation will be explored but is an ancillary objective of this course. The primary objective is to understand how businesses identify, evaluate, and promote a breakthrough technology through the lens of responsible management. The skills acquired in this class are fundamental if you want to pursue a career in corporate planning, management consulting, public affairs or risk management.
All course grade will be calculated according to the following criteria:

Descriptif
Regulators have expressed their concern over the governance and taxation of tech titans but there is also apprehension about their links to 'platform' business models and emergence of 'winner-take-all' market. Yet 'breakthrough' technologies have attracted less public attention despite the World Economic Forum (WEF) warning that countless middle-class, white-collar jobs that involve routine and repetitive tasks could soon disappear in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The media also reminds us of the potentially destructive effect that automation, combined with artificial intelligence, will have on labor.
However disruptive technologies that span across the material, digital, and biological worlds could also literally save our planet. Stopping average global temperatures from rising by 1.5'C requires a 50% reduction of carbon emission by 2030. Practically, this means every company, community, and consumer must find a path to achieving net-zero CO² levels by 2050. We therefore will need innovation at a speed and scale unparalleled in human history and the goal must be to improve society, not disruption for its own sake. This course focuses on the role of responsible management to ensure that promising technologies are used to empower people, not to replace them and are deployed to protect the planet, not to harm it.
