The course provides an introduction to the realm of stars and planets, our current understanding of star formation and evolution, and an overview on the solar system and extra-solar planets.

- Basic principles of stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis
- Star formation
- Pre-main sequence and main-sequence, and the specific case of the Sun
- Advanced phases of the evolution of low- and intermediate-mass stars
- The advanced phases of the evolution of massive stars
- Core-collapse, stellar remnants (neutron stars, black holes)
- Close binary evolution
- Solar system and planet formation
- The diversity of planets, an overview of the main characteristics of planets
- Star-planet interaction: evolution of the planetary orbit and habitability
