This introductory course will present the semiology of neuropsychological disorders, relating them to research on the possible mechanisms underlying major cognitive functions. The students will gain insight into the classic examination techniques of neuropsychological patients, the role of symptom associations and dissociations, and the contribution of neuroimaging research to the understanding of the effects of brain damage on cognitive function. The course will discuss the role of clinical research in the understanding of cognitive function in the healthy brain, and address the issue of brain plasticity and reorganization of function through rehabilitation.
