The astrophysics lab consists of a self-contained, small research project undertaken by the student under the supervision of an assistant. A project can be observational (using archival or proprietary data, or even obtained during the lab using the Telesto telescope in the Astrodome), theoretical, instrumental, or numerical.

A written report is submitted by e-mail to both the assistant and the coordinator for grading no later than 1 month after the end of lab. The report shall be of order 15-20 pages, including introduction (astrophysical, technical, etc), description of the work done, results (via text, figures, tables), and conclusions. References are expected to be used as well and cited in the text, together with a bibliography at the end. If needed, printouts of code can be appended or sent separately.

A short presentation may be requested as well.
