Managers today face a complex interplay of social, environmental, and business concerns, alongside demands from a wide range of stakeholders. As expectations evolve, the role of managers is being redefined to account for the broader consequences of their decisions – both within and beyond the boundaries of their organizations. Many managers believe that they are unbiased and have good intentions in responding to crises, social and environmental issues and stakeholder demands in a responsible way. However, corporate involvement in corruption, fraud, environmental degradation, human rights abuses, and customer manipulation persist.
The course explores the foundations of responsible management and introduces students to key frameworks, tools, and practices for engaging responsibly with companies’ key stakeholders, including employees, consumers, and supply chain partners, and with the broader society and environment. It addresses how managers can navigate grand challenges and manage rising stakeholder expectations. By fostering critical reflection and practical insight, the course equips students to take on leadership roles grounded in responsibility in the future.
The course combines lectures, case studies, in-class discussions and guest speakers.
