The Law in practice: An introduction
The 2019-nCoV pandemic has brought to the general attention the importance of law as a public health intervention tool to protect populations. The purpose of this course is to provide essential legal knowledge and skills to be able to appropriately use law as a tool and resource in global health practice.
The objective of the course is not to train lawyers but to reinforce global health students’ capacities to mobilize legal concepts and principles in their practice around the world.
The course is organized so as to go through the different legal orders – national, European and international- and to observe and compare their structure, actors, means of functioning. The course will be illustrated with examples from different countries and regions.
The course is based on a combination of short lecture sessions where concepts and principles are explained, and class discussions focused on health-related case studies from around the world, readings, interactive quiz and presentations prepared by the students.
