The course serves as an introduction to the Master on Innovation, Human Development and Sustainability (MIHDS), organized in partnership between the University of Geneva and Tsinghua University. The course invites students to discover and critically reflect on the origins, evolution, and debates surrounding the concept of sustainable development, as well as its current implementation through the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. The discovery is facilitated through field visits and encounters and debates with key sustainable development actors in Beijing and Geneva, who will present their organizations and activities. On the basis of these encounters, complimentary research, and practice-oriented workshops, students will work in groups to explore, present, and debate a sustainable development challenge. The course touches on the core issues to be studied in depth in the three MIHDS specializations: Sustainable Human Development; Standards, Governance and Sustainability; and Sustainable Cities and Territories.
